Driving is the single most dangerous activity we do on a daily basis
Today's regulations require an employer to take all reasonable
steps to ensure
that others are not put at risk by the actions of anyone employed by them -
that is anything they may do while driving for your business - including damage
to property and injuries and stress caused to others.
Many companies hire employees and provide a company vehicle for business and
personal use. However have you considered the potential risks associated with
handing over the keys to someone who may be a relatively inexperienced driver,
or someone, who thinks that 20 years experience behind the wheel makes them
a good driver.
Every employer has a legal responsibility to make a regular assessment of
the risks to the health and safety of their employees while at work, and to
take remedial action as necessary.
• In 2001 there were 313,046 casualties of all types on Britain's roads,
of which 3443 were fatalities. (more than 9 per day)
• 90% of all accidents are the result of driver error. Driver training is proven
to reduce accidents by as much as 70%.
• More than a third of all accidents involve someone who is at work.
• Every year 66% of all accidents involve company cars and commercial vehicles
costing British businesses in excess of £10 billion.
Through improved training of your fleet you could reduce these risks considerably.
FACT - The more miles you drive in your car the higher the risk of being involved
in a crash
